Why I stopped insisting on conduit for every indoor job
I was sure conduit was needed for every indoor cable job. My team always said it kept lines safe. Then a project in an older home changed my view. The hard pipes broke the plaster when we put them in. Now I go with flexible raceways most of the time. They move around things in the way and avoid wall damage. Other installers might not agree, but this method works better for me.

Old plaster is the worst for that... it just crumbles. Flexible stuff saves so many headaches in those old walls. Learned that the hard way too.

Did you see that thing about wiring in old houses? I read that flexible raceways are often better to keep the walls from breaking. Hard to argue with results when the plaster stays in one piece.

Plaster in those old homes is basically like working with ancient, brittle cookie dough. You breathe on it wrong and a chunk falls out. Switching to flexible raceways was a total game-changer for avoiding that kind of damage. It just makes sense to use a method that bends around the problems instead of fighting through them. Sticking with rigid conduit every single time can cause more harm than good in delicate walls. Sometimes the "right" way isn't the best way for the actual house you're working on.
