Every old timer I knew swore by it, but after a Rolleiflex came in with oily residue plastered across the blades last month, I switched to a hand blower and haven't looked back, so who else had to learn that lesson the hard way?

Man, I felt that in my bones. The canned air thing is such a classic trap, you see it in every old shop and every YouTube video, so you just assume it's the right way. Then one day you get a shutter with that sticky film and it's like, oh, this is why all those guys had specific rituals. I switched to a blower maybe five years ago after a Pentax 6x7 came back with blades that just would not snap clean. It's a slower process but at least I'm not spraying propellant or whatever that stuff leaves behind anymore.
