A client told me my bench was a mess and it made me slow
I was fixing a stuck shutter on a Nikon F3 last week, and the guy watched me hunt for a tiny screwdriver for a full minute. He said, 'You'd be done already if you could see your tools.' I cleared off half my bench that night and the next repair took half the time. How do you keep your work area from turning into a junk pile?

My bench looks like a bomb went off most days. I try to do a quick clean at the end of each job, but it never lasts. The chaos always finds a way back.

Honestly, I found a dedicated five-minute reset at lunch helps a lot.

That five minute reset sounds good, but isn't it just moving the mess around? A quick tidy at lunch won't fix the real problem if you're putting tools down anywhere while you work. The trick is to force yourself to put each tool back in its spot the second you're done with it. It feels slow at first, but then you never have to hunt for anything.
