Finally used a proper lens spanner on a stuck retaining ring instead of my usual needle nose pliers and got it off in 30 seconds flat after fighting it for 20 minutes
The needle nose just kept slipping and gouging the brass, but the spanner grabbed those tiny slots perfect, has anyone else had a cheap tool make that big of a difference on a simple job?

Three times I've bought the same cheap spanner set because I keep losing them, and they still work better than the expensive ones. Emma_dixon70 is spot on, but I think half the time we just get lucky with the first tool we grab.
