Found a 1950s repair shop ledger at an estate sale in Dayton, and page 12 hit home
Picked up a beat up ledger from an estate sale in Dayton last weekend for $8. It belonged to a shop called Miller Camera Service, and the entries from 1954 show they charged $3.50 for a shutter clean and lube on a Rolleiflex. What got me was a note in the margin from the owner telling a customer their Leica would take two weeks because parts were backordered. Felt good knowing we still fight the same fight 70 years later. Anyone else ever find old shop records like this?
Parts were backordered" is less a shared struggle and more proof that repair shops have been using that excuse as a shield forever. Two weeks in 1954 probably meant three, same as now.
