Had to choose between a full CLA or just replacing the shutter on a client's Leica M3
Went with the full service for $350 and found a cracked gear in the advance mechanism they never mentioned. Anyone else had a 'simple fix' turn into a major find?

That's a SCARY find for a simple shutter job. Good call going for the full CLA, it probably saved that camera. Hidden damage like that is why I'm always nervous with partial fixes.

Yeah, "hidden damage" is the worst. That cracked gear could have totally wrecked the whole camera later. You made the right call for sure.
