I cleaned a 1978 Nikon F2 viewfinder that had been foggy for maybe 20 years and the difference was like night and day.

Vinegar and water always does the trick for me.

My buddy Mark tried that on his shower door last month. It took three passes with straight vinegar before the hard water spots finally gave up. He swears by it now too.
