Just had a vintage Nikon F2 shutter curtain snap right in my hands

It happened yesterday while I was testing the slow speeds, and I had to order a new curtain from a supplier in Germany. Anyone have a good trick for aligning the new one without the factory jig?

Check the curtain alignment against the old one before you pull it out. I mean, I've done a few F2 curtains and you can use the old curtain's position as a guide. Just go super slow and make sure the new one sits in the exact same tracks.

My buddy learned the hard way, ignoring advice like @emery_black's, and his new curtain fell right out.

Oh man, that's a rough break. @emery_black has the right idea using the old curtain as a template. When you say "aligning," are you most worried about getting the new curtain's ribbons seated correctly in the drum, or making sure the travel path is exactly even side to side? That first part always makes me hold my breath.
