Just realized I was checking shutter speeds by ear for ten years
Back when I started, I'd fire a leaf shutter and listen for the click to judge if it was close to 1/500. Then last month I borrowed a friend's shutter tester and found my "good ear" was off by two full stops on a Copal unit at 1/1000. Now I hook every shutter to the tester before I even clean the blades, and the customer arguments went way down. What's your go-to test method, and did you learn it from a proper shop or just figure it out?
