Overheard a customer at the shop say they'd rather buy a new point-and-shoot than fix their old SLR

It made me think about how many people see repair as a waste now. I had a Nikon F3 come in last week that just needed a new light seal, but the owner almost tossed it. Anyone else noticing this shift in what people think is worth fixing?

My local repair guy said he gets at least two calls a week from people shocked that fixing a lens costs more than a cheap new camera. They don't see the value in the old glass or the metal body anymore. It's all about the upfront price tag, not what the tool can actually do.

Honestly, it's the same with everything now, not just cameras. Tbh people just expect things to be cheap and disposable. I see it with furniture, with appliances, even with clothes. Ngl it feels like we've lost the basic idea that fixing something good is better than buying something new and bad. That F3 is a tank that'll last another 40 years, but a new plastic camera will be junk in five. The whole mindset is just about the quickest, easiest option.
