Remember when we used to fix shutters with just a toothpick and some lighter fluid?

I used to do that all the time back in the 90s on old leaf shutters, now everything is circuit boards and ribbon cables. Anyone else find the old ways worked better for certain repairs?

My buddy Mike had a 1960s Rolleiflex that had a sticky leaf shutter, the kind with the little blades that would freeze up mid-closing. He tried every fix in the book, even soaking it in lighter fluid (like a big dummy) and using a toothpick to nudge the blades. Well, the thing actually worked for about three months after that, no joke. Then it seized up completely and he had to send it away to a guy in Pennsylvania who specialized in old shutters. That guy told him the toothpick trick can actually work if you're careful, but lighter fluid is a total gamble because it can mess with the lubricants on the older ones. I still think there's something to the old ways, especially when you're broke and desperate for a quick fix.

Used to think lighter fluid was a myth fix, but seeing it work for three months changed my mind.
