Spent 4 hours chasing a shutter issue that turned out to be one tiny screw
Had a customer's film SLR on the bench last week with a shutter that would fire fine at slow speeds but hang up around 1/500. I pulled the bottom plate, checked the curtain tension, cleaned the magnets, and reseated the whole mirror box. Four hours in I finally noticed the curtain brake screw had backed out maybe a quarter turn and was just barely dragging on the frame. Tightened it with a jewelers driver, fired off two test rolls, and it ran perfect at every speed. The whole fix would have been 10 minutes if I'd checked the simple stuff before tearing into the complicated parts. Any of you got a routine for checking the dumb mechanical stuff first before going deep?
