Stopped by a repair shop in Portland last month that had a whole shelf of cameras they wouldn't touch
The guy said he stopped taking in anything with a leaf shutter because people refused to pay more than $50 for the repair, and honestly after rebuilding my third Compur shutter in a row I'm starting to see his point, has anyone else run into customers balking at the real cost of shutter work?

Friend of mine runs a small camera shop in Seattle and he told me he had a customer bring in a Mamiya C330 last year. He quoted the guy $120 to rebuild both shutters and the guy laughed and said he could buy a whole new camera for that. My buddy just smiled and said go ahead and try, good luck finding a working one for that price. He never saw the guy again.

Honestly this whole thing feels like a lot of drama over a $120 repair job. Ngl the guy probably just didn't want to pay it and that's fine.

Call me crazy but $120 for a shutter rebuild on a camera that's worth maybe $300 tops feels steep when you can grab a used C330 for around that if you're patient. I've seen them pop up on Craigslist and eBay for under $150 with a working lens before, so the guy probably wasn't totally wrong to balk at it. Your buddy's attitude kinda guarantees he'll never see that customer again, and the guy might just find a whole working setup for that price if he's lucky enough to stumble on the right deal.
