That $80 flex cable I destroyed trying to save a $5 part

I tried to desolder a tiny broken switch on a Canon AE-1 circuit board instead of just hunting down a replacement board, and ended up ripping the entire flex cable off the shutter control module. Has anyone else fallen for the 'I can fix this one little thing' trap and made the job way worse?

Ugh that hurts just reading it lol. The 'one little thing' trap is real and I've definitely been there with way too many projects.

Yeah it's always a gamble" - my buddy tried that on a Nikon once and ended up supergluing his thumb to the shutter.

Kinda feels like you're beating yourself up over something that's probably fixable still, no? Like yeah it's annoying but an $80 flex cable isn't the end of the world unless you literally can't find another one. Maybe it's just me but camera repairs always have that gamble built in.
