That conversation with a retired Leica tech made me nervous
I was talking to this old timer at a camera swap meet in Portland last Saturday, and he said most of the new repair shops don't bother checking the shutter timing after cleaning the lens elements, just slap it back together. He claimed he's seen 3 cameras come in this year with ruined shutters because someone skipped that step and the blades got out of sync. Has anyone else heard about this shortcut becoming common?

Oh man, that's exactly the kind of thing that keeps me up at night with my old gear! I took my Minolta to a place that seemed legit and they totally skipped checking the timing after cleaning, now the shutter sounds off on the slower speeds.

yeah ive had a local shop do that to one of my pentax bodies. now i always ask point blank if they check shutter timing before they hand it back. saved me a headache once when they said no and i took it elsewhere.

Send it to a shop that checks shutter timing after every repair - peace of mind is worth the extra cost.
