That sticky aperture blade trick I stumbled on by accident

I had a beat up Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 that was so oily the blades barely moved. Tried lighter fluid and it helped a little but they still stuck around f/8. Then I remembered reading somewhere that a tiny dab of naptha on the pivot pins could work better. I dropped one drop on each pin, cycled the ring fifty times, and the blades snapped clean after. Has anyone else used naptha for this or is there something else that works even better for greasy apertures?

Lighter fluid never did it for me but naptha fixed a sticky 50mm in five minutes flat.

Good on you for finding something that works. Nothing worse than messing with a sticky aperture for ages. I've had that same issue with an old 35mm where lighter fluid just seemed to make it worse somehow. Naptha is a different beast altogether, cleans things right up without leaving that weird residue. Sometimes you just need the right tool for the job, you know? Glad you got it sorted.

Nah, lighter fluid's always been fine for mine.
