Watching a guy in Tokyo fix a Leica with a paperclip made me rethink my whole kit.

He was at a tiny shop in Shinjuku and just bent it to adjust a tiny spring... I used to think you needed a $200 set of picks for everything. Anyone else have a moment like that where a simple fix beat the fancy tool?

That's the real pro move right there. Sometimes you just need to get the job done, you know? Ever try to fix something with whatever was in your pocket?

My old man fixed our washing machine with a coat hanger once. The part was a weird bent rod that controlled the water level. He just shaped it with pliers and it ran for five more years. I remember staring at it, realizing half the stuff in the toolbox was just for making you feel prepared. Sometimes the right tool is just the one that fits.

Sounds like a great way to ruin a good camera.
