Why does nobody mention that a dented front ring can throw off your focus by a few thousandths
Spent 3 hours chasing a soft focus on a 50mm before I put a straightedge on the filter ring and found it was pushed in about 0.015 inch from a drop. I had been shimming the mount like an idiot the whole time. How do you guys check ring flatness before you start tearing into the glass?
