Dropped $70 on a hammock setup for my July trip to Shenandoah and slept worse than on the ground
I bought a cheap hammock with the built in bug net and those tree straps everyone raves about, thinking it would save my back after years of rocky ground. First night near Big Meadows it sagged so bad my feet were above my head and I woke up every hour sliding into the middle. Second night I tried a different angle between two oaks but the straps stretched and I ended up with my butt 6 inches off the dirt. By morning I gave up, threw my pad on the ground, and actually slept fine. Anyone got a hammock setup that actually works for side sleepers, or should I just go back to a tent?
