Everyone says to get a big 4-person tent for two people. I disagree.

Just did a 3-day hike in the Adirondacks with my partner. My old 3-person tent was way better than the huge 4-person one I bought. The smaller one stayed warmer and the vestibule fit our packs fine. Anyone else find bigger isn't always better for backpacking?

You're right about the smaller tent staying warmer. I see this everywhere, like people buying huge SUVs for a family of four. The extra space just means more air to heat or cool, and you end up carrying a bunch of empty room around.

That extra space is just more air to heat, cool, and haul around for no reason.
