My old canvas tent from 2005 versus a new nylon one I got last fall

The canvas one took me and a friend almost an hour to set up in the rain at Yellowstone, and it weighed 25 pounds. The new one pops up in ten minutes, packs down small, and kept me bone dry in a storm last month. Has anyone else made a switch like this and been shocked by the difference?

Yeah, my old tent was basically a canvas coffin I had to fight with. The new tech feels like cheating, but I'm not going back.

Totally get that. I had a heavy old dome tent that took forever to set up and always leaked. Switched to a simple pop-up tent last year and it changed everything. I mean, I used to dread the whole process and now it's just... easy. Feels like cheating for sure, but why make it harder on yourself?

Remember that old tent pole that was basically a puzzle from hell? I spent more time cussing at it than actually camping. My new tent is so simple I feel like a fraud who bought a diploma. The old one needed a full team meeting to set up, this one I can do with one hand while holding a hot dog.
