My waterproof jacket test turned into a splash party

I claimed my new jacket was totally waterproof until my friend sprayed me with a hose. It held up, but I was soaked from the surprise. What's the funniest way you've tested your rain jacket?

I mean, after a few soggy hikes I finally learned to check the seams first. Spraying just the fabric never shows where it'll actually leak.

Ugh, that's the worst, @thomas.ruby. I've been there watching water bead up nice on the fabric, only to feel a cold drip right down my neck from a seam. My old tent was terrible for it, leaking along the rainfly stitches every time. You can spray that fabric forever and it looks great, but the water always finds the needle holes. Checking seams first saves so much hassle.

Remember when we all thought the fabric spray test was the gold standard? I totally used to drench my jackets in the backyard feeling smug till my sleeping bag got soaked at a festival. Seams are sneaky like that, just like michael_wright90 said about the needle holes. Water doesn't care how fancy the coat is if it can sneak through a stitch. Now I test the armpits and hood seams first with the hose, it's a total game changer.
