Poncho over tent stopped the leaks, but is hacking gear a good habit?
Some folks swear by improvising with what you have, while others say buy the right tool for the job. I avoided a wet night by using my poncho, but it felt sketchy. Where do you stand on gear hacks?

Duct-taped my boot back together once and looked ridiculous, but it got me off the mountain. Honestly, half my camping stories start with a bad idea that somehow worked. I've tried using a soda bottle as a stove and a bandana as a coffee filter, with mixed, mostly terrible results. Ngl, I'm basically just MacGyver with worse hair and more duct tape.

Wait, that's not really MacGyver though @brian_smith6. He had plans. Tbh, your stories sound more like lucky accidents, not genius. Still funny, just different.

Like Brian's bad ideas that worked, a poncho fix is fine for emergencies but ALWAYS carry proper gear for next time.
