Talked to an old timer at a Missouri campground about tent stakes, now I carry extras

I ran into this guy named Ray near Table Rock Lake who has been camping since the 70s. He told me he ALWAYS packs 4 extra stakes because one bent one can wreck a whole night if a storm rolls in. That made me look at my $12 stake bag different, so now I count them before every trip. Anyone else got a random gear tip from a stranger that stuck with you?
