The old coleman lantern versus the new led lighter option
I was prepping for a trip up to the Smokies last fall and had to decide between bringing my dad's old Coleman propane lantern from the 80s or one of those new lightweight LED panels. I went with the LED because it was smaller and I figured it'd be easier to pack. Honestly, I missed the warm glow and the hiss of the old one, plus the LED ran through batteries way faster than I expected after three nights. Has anyone else switched from gas to battery and regretted it?

My 70s coleman exploded on a canoe trip, soaked my sleeping bag.

Figure out what actually caused that explosion and you might save yourself from buying a new stove for no reason. Most of the time it's not the stove itself but a bad fuel cap seal or a dirty fuel line letting air in, which then builds pressure weird. I've seen guys throw away perfectly good stoves because they thought it was a defect, but really the o-ring on the cap just dried out after sitting in a garage for years. Check that first before dropping cash on a replacement. Also worth looking at the generator tube (the little brass tube under the burner) - if that's clogged with carbon, the fuel mixture goes wonky and you get that sudden burst.
