TIL a guy at the REI in Boise was right about ditching my heavy tent for a tarp setup
About 3 years ago an older camper at the Boise REI counter told me to skip the 6 pound tent and just learn a tarp and bug net setup for summer trips. I ignored him for a whole season because it seemed like too much hassle, then got rained on hard at Craters of the Moon and finally gave it a shot, and the weight drop from 6 pounds to under 2 was no joke. Has anyone else had a piece of gear advice that sounded dumb at first but turned out solid?
