Tried a new camp stove fuel and it totally failed on me in the rain

I was testing a bioethanol gel fuel on a weekend trip to the Red River Gorge. The first night was fine, but on the second night, a light drizzle started. The flame sputtered and went out in under two minutes, even with a windscreen. I learned that some alternative fuels just don't handle moisture well at all. Has anyone found a good wet-weather fuel that isn't the usual propane canister?

You said you kept it sheltered, but how sheltered does it really need to be if a drizzle kills it?

My old patio heater lasted three seasons with just a basic roof overhang. The key is keeping the burner itself dry, not the whole unit. A little water in the fuel tray is what ruins it. Maybe your shelter let rain fall straight down into it?

Honestly sounds like you just got a bad batch or didn't prime it right. Tbh my bioethanol gel has worked fine in light rain before, you just gotta keep it sheltered. Maybe give it another shot with a better setup.
