Appreciation post: I keep seeing founders in Vancouver pitch without a clear answer to 'how do you make money?'

After watching 5 pitches at a local demo day, I was shocked that 3 of them couldn't explain their revenue model beyond 'we'll figure it out later', which matters because investors here want to see a path to profit from day one, not just a cool app idea.

Funny how some founders act like revenue is a surprise twist ending instead of the whole plot. Maybe they're hoping investors will be so dazzled by tech buzzwords they forget businesses need money. It's not just about having a plan, it's about showing you understand that a company is a machine for making cash, not just a cool project. That lack of basic thinking probably tells you everything about how they'll handle real problems later on.

Ugh, seriously! I mean, if you can't even explain the money part, how are you gonna handle the hard stuff like hiring or supply chains? It just shows they're not thinking about the actual business.

Right? It's like what @roberts95 said, I see this everywhere now where people just skip the basic how-does-it-work stuff and jump straight to the dream.
