Changed my mind about remote pay equity after a chat with a founder in Vancouver

I was all for paying everyone the same no matter where they lived, but then a founder in Vancouver broke down how his team in Winnipeg costs 40% less for the same talent and he uses that savings to hire more people. Has anyone else shifted their stance after hearing the actual numbers from a real startup?

Funny enough, my bank account screamed the same thing after I moved from Toronto to Sudbury - turns out I was the cheaper talent all along.

Moved from Vancouver to a tiny place in BC. Thought I'd save money on rent. Ended up spending it all on gas just to get to a grocery store.

Had a buddy pull the same move, moved out to the sticks to save cash and ended up dropping forty bucks every weekend just to buy milk and eggs. He moved back to the suburbs after six months.
