Found a simple way to cut customer onboarding time by 40% for our payments app
I run a small fintech startup in Toronto and our signup flow was losing people left and right. Last month I tried removing the email verification step until after they make their first transaction. That one change cut our average onboarding time from 12 minutes down to 7. Retention actually went up too since people are already invested by the time they verify. Has anyone else tried delaying verification steps or tweaking their flow like this?

Seems like a pretty minor tweak to call a "simple way" when you're basically just hiding the verification step. Are you sure your fraud rates haven't gone up since people can use the app without confirming who they are first?

Honestly, if they're just tucking the step away instead of removing it, doesn't that still mean people either skip it or get confused and blame the app later? Tbh, I've seen companies pull this to bump onboarding numbers but then the chargebacks start rolling in a few months down the line. Ngl, unless they're tracking how many of those "skipped" verifications turn into actual problems, it's hard to buy that fraud rates haven't shifted at least a little. Have you checked their support forums for any recent complaints about this?
