I finally went with a local Calgary payment processor over Stripe for our beta

Everyone said to just use Stripe for our app's checkout, but their Canadian settlement times were a problem for our cash flow. We picked a smaller firm called NorthBridge Pay, and it cut our hold time from 5 business days to 2. Has anyone else gone against the grain on a core tech choice like this?

Ever see a friend's small shop almost miss payroll? They used a big name processor that held funds for a week. Switching to a local guy got them their money in two days, which was the difference between paying people on time or not. That hold time is no joke when you have real bills due.

Switching to a local payment provider solved a similar cash flow issue for us.

But is a cash flow issue really that serious... sometimes it's just a timing thing. Feels like everyone calls every little dip a crisis now. Maybe the old provider was just slow, not broken. Switching seems like a big fix for what could be a small problem.
