Ran into a founder from my first startup job at a coffee shop in Kitchener
Honestly, this was maybe 8 years ago, right when the whole 'fintech' thing was just starting here. I was grabbing a coffee and saw the CEO from that old payments app I worked on. He remembered me and said, 'Back then, we were just trying to get a bank to return a phone call. Now they call us.' Tbh, it hit me how much the scene has changed. We used to have to beg for meetings, and now there are incubators and VC funds on every corner. Has anyone else had a moment that really showed you how far the Canadian fintech space has come?

Used to think it was hype. That story proves it's real now.

Yeah, that's how it goes. People see one thing that fits what they want to believe and it locks them in. It's like my neighbor who saw one video online and now thinks a certain brand of car is totally junk, even though his own ran fine for years. Matthew166 has a point about confirmation bias. You see it with politics, with health stuff, everything. One story becomes the whole truth for someone.

One story doesn't make something real, that's just confirmation bias.
