A coffee chat in a Denver airport lounge made me stop over-prepping for interviews
I was waiting for a delayed flight and just started talking to a stranger about his job. He said the best hires he ever made were the ones who asked him real questions, not the ones who recited perfect answers. Now I always leave space in my prep for a genuine conversation. Anyone else find that a simple talk changed how you handle job stuff?

Ngl that dentist story from @ryantorres is a whole new level of pressure. Now I'm going to be paranoid about how I sit in a waiting room. It's crazy how much we miss by just trying to give the right scripted answers all the time. That guy in Denver had it right, they just want to see if you can have a normal human talk. Makes all that stress over perfect answers seem like a total waste.

Your dentist hires people based on waiting room behavior? That's wild but it makes total sense. People show their real selves when they think no one's watching. It's a good reminder to just be decent everywhere.

My dentist told me last year that he hires based on how people act in the waiting room, not just their resume. It made me realize we're always being interviewed in casual moments, you know? That small talk at the coffee machine or in a line matters more than we think.
