DAE get frustrated with how SLOW moving up in a company can be?

Some folks say to just wait your turn and be patient. But I know people who think you have to CREATE your own chances. I've been stuck in the same job for years, and it's driving me crazy. What's your view?

Watched my friend sit in the same analyst spot for five years, always told the next promotion was coming. He finally applied for a manager role at a different company and got it. Sometimes the waiting game is just how they keep you in your seat. You gotta be willing to look outside your current desk.

Seriously, @palmer.kevin, this is SO true. I read an article that said people often get better pay by changing companies, not by staying and waiting. It's crazy how places will string you along with promises that never happen, just to keep you right where you are. Your friend's story shows you really HAVE to take charge and look outside. That waiting game can cost you years if you're not careful.
