Got a compliment from a senior dev after a code review today
I've been at this new job for about 6 months now and honestly imposter syndrome has been hitting me hard. I was dreading this code review for a feature I had to build from scratch, thought I'd get torn apart. But my senior dev just said my logic was clean and I handled edge cases better than most juniors do. That one sentence from him meant more than any raise or bonus, you know? It was at our weekly standup (in the conference room with the broken projector, classic) and I almost didn't know how to respond. I've been second-guessing every pull request I make and this finally made me feel like I belong here. Has anyone else had that one moment where you suddenly felt like you actually know what you're doing?

That's awesome man, that feeling is hard to beat lol. Did that one compliment actually change how you approach your next pull request though? I've had moments like that where I get a good review but then I'm back to second-guessing myself by the next sprint, wondering if it was a fluke.

Nah, you think I let one compliment go to my head and then immediately spiral into imposter syndrome the next day? Okay yeah, that's exactly what happened. I had a solid month where every PR felt like I was just typing random comments and hoping nobody noticed I had no idea what I was doing. The compliment was nice but by the next sprint I was back to double checking every line of my code like it was a bomb I had to defuse. It's like a cheat code that only works once then your brain resets back to "yeah but this time they're gonna find out you're a fraud.

respectfully, hard disagree. one good review builds confidence that carries into the next sprint.
