I spent $500 on a 'career coach' who just told me to update my LinkedIn

Is paying for career advice worth it, or is it better to just use free online resources and network on your own?

Free stuff worked way better" is a good point, but a real coach can be worth it if you find one who actually gives you a plan, not just basic tips.

My $200 coach just sent me YouTube links...

Wasted money on that too, free stuff worked way better for me.
