I stopped asking for a raise and just showed my boss the numbers instead

For two years, I kept getting the same 'budget is tight' line when I asked for more money. Last quarter, I tracked every project I saved time on, including cutting vendor costs by 15% on a big apartment complex renovation. I put it all in a one-page doc and left it on his desk before our check-in. He approved a $5,000 bump the next week without me even asking again. Why do we think talking is better than just showing the proof? Anyone else tried something like this?

It's like how a picture is worth a thousand words, numbers just cut through the talk.

Numbers cut through the talk" is a good point from @lee_reed, changed how I see it.

Maybe we're overcomplicating this. A boss who needs a spreadsheet to see your value might be the real issue. @olivia398, it's good the numbers worked, but a decent manager should already know who saves them money. If you have to prove your basic worth with data every time, that's a red flag. Some places just have a culture of saying no until you force their hand.
