I turned down a $4/hr raise at my tree job and my buddy in Austin thinks I'm nuts
I ran my own crew for 6 years and always thought the next dollar was the goal, until last month when my old boss offered me $4 more an hour to come back as a ground guy instead of running the crew. I took the lower spot on purpose since the foreman role was eating 60 hour weeks and I never saw my kids. My buddy in Austin says I gave up easy money and he might be right, but the guys who chase the title always seem to burn out by 35. Anyone else step down a rung and was it the right call?
Gave up easy money" is a funny way to say kept your weekends and your sanity, but sure, sounds real nuts. Your buddy in Austin can have the title and the 60 hour weeks, you can have dinner with your kids. Sounds like a pretty easy call to me.
