PSA: I turned down a $15k raise to stay at a job with flexible hours

My old boss offered me a management gig at a competitor for 15k more a year, but I knew it meant 50 hour weeks and weekends. I stayed put at my current place where I can leave at 4 to pick up my kid. Has anyone else taken less money for a better schedule and regretted it or was it worth it?

Doesn't that extra money just get eaten up by daycare or after-school stuff anyway?

That flexible schedule is worth way more than 15k. Time with your kid beats extra cash any day.

My cousin took a job paying 12k less just so she could be home when her son got off the bus. The first week she made cookies with him every Tuesday afternoon. Now he's 16 and still texts her when he gets home even though he doesn't have to. That kind of trust and time doesn't come from a bigger paycheck. You can always find ways to earn more money later but you can't get back the years when they actually want to hang out with you. The daycare cost argument is real though, I watched my sister do that math and it was brutal.
