You actually tracked it every single week?

Michael has a point. My old marketing job is a good example. I once brought a three page list of every email, graphic, and meeting to my review. My manager just sighed and asked why the quarterly report, which was at the top of my big wins list, needed so many tiny steps that clearly took time away from other work. It framed everything as small busywork instead of showing I got the important stuff done. Now I just keep a short list of the final results.

Seriously? I tried the weekly log thing and it totally backfired. It made my work look tiny and boring when I read it back, just a list of small tasks. My boss would just ask why the big projects took so long if I showed all the little steps. You're better off just remembering the few big wins you had, not every single thing you did on a Tuesday. That detailed list can actually hurt your case more than help it.
