Rant: Got let go from a remote job after 3 weeks because my internet went down once

Started a new data entry role on March 1st, and on day 17 my fiber line got cut by a construction crew. Boss said one outage showed I wasn't 'reliable enough' and ended my contract. Has anyone else dealt with companies that have zero tolerance for stuff outside your control?

Did you check if your contract had a reliability clause or a probation period? I had a similar thing happen and I found out later they were just looking for an excuse to cut me. Might be worth hitting up the Department of Labor in your state, this stuff can sometimes count as wrongful termination if they didn't give you a chance to fix it.

Did your state's labor board actually help you out?

You ask them if they helped? Yeah, I sent in a claim with my states labor board too after a similar deal. Worked a temp gig for two weeks and my power went out from a storm, boss said I was unreliable and cut me loose. The labor board actually sided with me and I got a small settlement, so it's worth a shot like you mentioned. @adamr14, definitely check with your states board because sometimes these companies just want a reason to let you go and you can fight it.
