Shadowed a claims adjuster for 2 days and it beat my $1,800 online course flat
Last spring I paid $1,800 for an online claims adjusting course because I wanted to get into the field and the reviews said it was the fast track. I finished all 40 hours and still felt like I knew nothing about how a real day goes. Then a family friend in Cleveland let me shadow him for two days in April. I watched him handle a water damage claim on a Tuesday morning and he spent 20 minutes just calming the homeowner down before he even opened his tablet. It was the small stuff the course never showed me, like how he photographs every room from the doorway first, and how he keeps a second tape measure because the first one always walks off. I'm not saying the course was a scam, but two days of watching beat six weeks of slides. Has anyone else gotten more out of shadowing somebody than from a certificate program? I want to know if that's normal or if I just picked the wrong course.
