Showerthought: I saw a barista in Portland write down every order for a full hour

Honestly, I was just grabbing coffee last week at a place called Stumptown and noticed the barista had a small notebook. She told me she writes down every drink she makes for the first hour of her shift to track her speed and accuracy. Tbh, it made me realize how a simple, cheap tool can help you improve at any job, not just fancy tech stuff. Has anyone else picked up a basic habit like that which actually helped your work performance?

My old boss timed our med rounds with a dollar store stopwatch.

That Stumptown barista's notebook is a great idea.

Ever notice how the best ideas are just people writing stuff down? It's not fancy tech or some big system, it's a notebook. That barista probably fixes more problems with pen and paper than most managers do with all their apps. We overcomplicate everything when the fix is usually simple. That notebook works because it's direct and right there, no passwords or loading screens. More places should try the simple fix first.
