Spent $300 on a professional resume rewrite and it was a total waste

I was looking for a new job in marketing and paid a service to redo my resume. They charged me $300 and gave me a fancy looking document with a lot of buzzwords. I sent it out for two months and got almost no calls back. I finally showed it to a friend who hires for my field, and she said it looked fake and didn't show my real skills. I went back to my simpler, honest version and started getting interviews right away. Has anyone else had a bad experience with these expensive resume services?

Paid a guy to write a cover letter for me once. It sounded like a robot trying to win a poetry contest. I read it back and didn't even recognize my own career.

Happened to me too, total waste of money.

My cousin bought that same brand of blender last year, @the_linda. The motor burned out after three smoothies, and they wanted a 50 dollar fee just to look at it. He ended up buying a cheaper one that's still going strong.
