The 'just walk in and ask for a job' advice my dad gave me in 2012 finally clicked last week when I saw a 'no unsolicited resumes' sign on a door in Cleveland.

I tried his advice at a small machine shop three years ago and got laughed at, but last month I got a callback from a print shop by just asking the manager if they were busy, which led to a chat and an interview last week.

Honestly, that's just luck. Most places will still tell you to apply online.
