Warning: That 'quick fix' resume service cost me two interviews
I paid $80 to a online resume service that promised to make my resume look professional. They just loaded it with buzzwords and fancy formatting. After three months of no callbacks, I sent my old plain resume to a friend's HR contact and got two interviews within two weeks. Has anyone else had bad luck with those resume rewriting places?

Did you try tweaking your old one for each job before you sent it out?

From what you're saying, it sounds like that service just slapped a template on your info without actually reading your background. My gut says those places rarely understand what makes someone's actual work history click with a hiring manager. Since your plain version got results, what made you think the original needed help in the first place? Was it just the formatting or did you feel like the content itself was weak? Seems like the money went to the wrong problem entirely.
