Why does nobody talk about how awkward it is to ask for a raise after your boss forgets?

I was sitting in my dental office break room last Thursday, eating a sad sandwich, when my manager walked by and I realized she completely forgot our meeting about my promotion that was supposed to happen three weeks ago. I ended up having to schedule a whole new appointment with her assistant just to get on her calendar again, and now I feel like I'm bugging her. Has anyone else had to basically remind their boss to follow through on something they promised?

My dentist forgot to even show up for my root canal once. Had me sitting in the chair with my mouth open for forty minutes before the receptionist came in and said he went home sick. Never rescheduled that appointment either, just pretended it never happened. That situation you're in sounds like the professional version of that, where your boss is hoping you'll just let it slide if she ignores it long enough. Do yourself a favor and send that follow up email with a calendar invite attached to it. Make her assistant explain why she can't keep a straight schedule.

Forty minutes is WAY too long to sit there with your mouth hanging open.
