Why does nobody tell you that job fairs actually work? I got my current gig at one in Cleveland
I always thought job fairs were a waste of a Saturday, just a room full of people handing out flyers for commission sales jobs. My cousin pushed me to go to one at the convention center in Cleveland back in March because I was 5 months into a layoff and getting nothing back from online applications, maybe 2 replies out of 60. I almost skipped it. But I talked to a recruiter for a logistics company for like 15 minutes, not even about a specific job, just about how their warehouse scheduling worked. Two days later she called me for an interview, and I started 3 weeks after that. The thing that shocked me was that she said she gets 400 resumes a week online and can't tell who's real, so meeting someone in person is how she filters. My whole view of job fairs was wrong, I thought they were for entry level stuff only. Has anyone else landed something decent from one of these, or did I just get lucky with the timing?
