12 years of miter saw use and I just learned about the blade washer

Was complaining to an old timer about burnt edges on my cuts and he just reached over, spun my blade around, and pointed at the washer. Apparently I had it on backwards since day one. Anyone else miss stuff this basic for way too long?

Wait, you mean there's actually a specific way the washer is supposed to go? I've been swapping blades for years and I just slap it on however it fits. I always figured burnt edges were just par for the course with a miter saw, you know, like a sacrifice to the sawdust gods. That old timer probably saved you from replacing blades twice as often too. Now I'm gonna be staring at my saw like it's a puzzle for the next hour.

Well now, that's one of those things that makes you wonder what else you've been missing. I'd wager a lot of folks have the same problem and just live with the burnt edges thinking it's the blade's fault. It makes you appreciate the old timers who actually take the time to look at your setup instead of just telling you to buy a better saw.
