Bought a used planer at an estate sale last month and nearly lost a finger
I found a DeWalt 735 planer for 200 bucks at an estate sale near Chicago last month. The seller said it worked fine, but I didn't check the cutter head before I ran some oak through it. Three days later a chunk of carbide flew off and hit my safety glasses. Has anyone else dealt with buying used tools that are hiding damage?

Did you check if the blades were even seated right before you ran it?

Did you really think those two screws would somehow fix themselves if you gave them a few more seconds? I once had a buddy who ran a saw with the blade on backwards - took him three tries and a trip to the hardware store to figure it out. Sometimes these tools just need us to slow down and actually look at what we're doing before we pull the trigger.

and honestly that's the thing right there - you gotta check EVERYTHING on a used tool before you even plug it in. I've been burned more times than I care to admit by assuming a seller knew what they were talking about. A DeWalt 735 for 200 bucks is a steal but that's also a red flag right there, people don't just dump those for cheap unless somethings off. I always pop the cutter head cover off and spin it by hand now before I even turn it on. saves a lot of trouble and possibly body parts
